80The Military Engineer L May-June L 2010 Lt. Gen. Robert L. Van Van Antwerp, P.E., F.SAME, USA Chief of Engineers and Commanding General U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Lt. Gen. Robert L. Van Van Antwerp, P.E., F.SAME, USA, became the U.S. Army Chief of Engineers and Command- ing General of the U.S. Army Corps Engineers (USACE) on May 18, 2007. As USACE Commanding General, Gen. Van Antwerp serves as the senior military officer overseeing most of the nations civil works infrastructure and military construction. He is responsible for approximately 33,000 civilian and 600 military employees who provide project management and construction support to 250 Army and Air Force installations in nearly 100 countries around the world. Gen. Van Antwerp took command of USACE after serving most recently as Commanding General, U.S. Army Accessions Command. Other command assignments include the U.S. Army Maneuver Support Center and Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.; Commandant, U.S. Army Engineer School; USACE Los Angeles District during the Northridge Earthquake of 1994; the U.S. Army Division, South Atlantic, Atlanta, Ga.; and the 326th Engineer Battalion, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Rear Adm. Wayne Greg Shear Jr., P.E., F.SAME, CEC, USN Chief of Civil Engineers and Commander Naval Facilities Engineering Command Rear Adm. Wayne Greg Shear Jr., P.E., F.SAME, CEC, USN, assumed command of the U.S. Naval Facilities Engi- neering Command (NAVFAC) and became Chief of Civil Engineers in October 2006. Adm. Shear leads a global organization comprised of NAVFACs 15,000 military, civilians and contractors who serve as engineers, architects, contract specialists and other professionals. NAVFACs annual volume of business exceeds $11 billion, and in- cludes six business lines: Capital Improvements, Environmental, Real Estate, Public Works, Base Development and Contingency Engineering. Previously, Adm. Shear served as Director, Ashore Readiness Division (N46) Staff of the Chief of Naval Operations and Deputy Commander, Navy Installations Command. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Adm. Shear is a Seabee Combat Warfare Officer. He has served as the Executive Officer at the former NAVFAC Southern Division in Charleston, S.C., as well as Commander, 30th Naval Construction Regiment, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and Vice Commander, Third Naval Construction Brigade. While with the Seabees, Adm. Shear served on a temporary assignment as Commander, U.S. Support Group, East Timor, reporting to U.S. Pacific Command and later as Deputy Commander for Operations, NAVFAC. Rear Adm. Christopher J. Mossey, P.E., CEC, USN Incoming Chief of Civil Engineers and Commander Naval Facilities Engineering Command Rear Adm. Christopher J. Mossey, P.E., USN, will assume command of the U.S. Naval Facilities Engineering Com- mand (NAVFAC) and become Chief of Civil Engineers in May 2010. Since September 2009, Adm. Mossey has served as Vice Commander, Navy Installations Command and Director, Shore Readiness Division (N46) on the Chief of Naval Operations staff. He previously commanded NAVFAC Atlantic in Norfolk, Va. Adm. Mosseys other command tours include NAVFAC Pacific in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; Commanding Officer, NAVFAC, Washington, D.C.; Navy Public Works Center, Washington, D.C.; and Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 7, homeported in Gulfport, Miss. Adm. Mossey was commissioned an ensign in 1981 through the Naval ROTC program at Cornell University after earning a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering. He received a Master of Engineering in construction management from Stanford University in June 1991, and completed the Executive Training Program at Dartmouths Tuck School of Business in August 2003. He is a member of the Defense Acquisition Corps and is designated as a Seabee Combat Warfare Officer.
